Congratulations to the 17 students who took part in the Tamanui te Ra poetry finals on Thursday! It was a very hard job to choose the four students to go through to the school finals as all of the recitals were of a very high standard. Congratulations goes to Paige, Riley, Tayla and Shanti who will be representing our syndicate at the Year 8 finals on the last day of the term. Well done!

Week 6

By now all chocolate money should be in and any unsold chocolate returned to school. Hopefully we have sold enough to stay in front of the other Year 8 classes and earn ourselves that pizza lunch!

Last week we had our first Endball game against Room 13. We started really well and were ahead by 5 after the first three minutes and then they started to catch up. Luckily we had a strong defence and were able to pull through and win the match.

Week 4

Week four has arrived already and the selling of chocolate is nearly over. Congratulations to both Simon and Chontelle who had their names drawn out at assembly to colllect prizes. Well done to everyone else who has sold a box of chocolate as well. We are currently first equal in Year 8 and if we keep it up a pizza lunch will be coming our way! Keep working hard to sell as many bars as you can in the time that is left!

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!

How many boxes have you sold so far? Remember the race is on to sell as much as you can each week to get your name into the prize draw. There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs!

We are fund raising for:
1. A sound studio in our new performing arts block.
2. More resources for the library.
3. More sports gear.

CAN we beat every other Year 8 class and win ourselves a pizza lunch?

Welcome back for the start of another exciting term!

Hi everyone and welcome back. I hope you had a great break from school and are ready for another school term.

Please post a comment below about something you did in the holidays and something you would like to achieve this term.

It can be something to do with school or something outside of school.

This term our topic is called CHANGE & CRISIS and we will be starting the term off by looking at ANZAC day. Each year we celebrate the lives of those who went to war and did not come home and we celebarte the returned serviceman who fought in the wars and returned home again. On April 25 each year ANZAC Day servives are held in New Zealand, Australia and Turkey. Wreaths are laid, the Last Post is played and it is a chance for us all to remember the past and in particular those who fought for our country.

Your challenge is to attend an ANZAC Day servive this year. The dawn parade is often the most powerful service but so are others during the day.

At school we will be discussing the services and the ANZAC day celebrations so it will be great to have had as many of you as possible attend the service so you can contribute to our discussions. We will also be looking at the traditions behind the services and if it is still current and relevant.

What do you think? Should we remember the past?

Camp

Hi everyone and welcome back to the blog. We had a fabulous week at Totaranui last week and below is a selection of some of the photographs that were taken during the week. We had glorious weather, lots of fun relaxing at the beach and kayaking, abseiling, searching for crabs, diving for muscles, cooking meals, sleeping in the tents and walking parts of the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park.

Thanks so much to everyone who made our week possible!!!

Today Room 1 had their first non stop cricket game against Room 13. It was a very close game and we ended up winning 92 to 91! We all played really well and are looking forward to our next game later this week.

Do you think we can make it all the way to the top?

Camp - What would you like to eat?

As you know we are going on camp in Week 8 of this term (Monday 26 March - Friday 30 March). We will have four dinners together and one of those dinners you will cook yourself. I would love to have your input into what you would like on the other 3 nights.

Things to consider...
  • there are 38 people to feed each night
  • we won't have all day to cook
  • preparation and dishes are done by you (while supervised of course) so don't make it too complicated!
  • read other people's comments and if you agree then you can repeat what they have said as well
  • please record a main course and a dessert suggestion and don't forget your name : )

Welcome to Room 1, 2012

Hello and welcome to Room One's class blog! This web site will keep you up to date with what we are doing in class, up coming events and homework information. It is a place for you to leave messages to other students and as a way of communicationng your ideas in the form of a comment. I am hoping this will become a record of our year together.

Each week 2 students will have the pleasure of being in charge of the blog. The first two students will already know a bit about blogging and they will be teaching the other pairs when it is their turn.

What ideas have you got to make our blog cool, fun, informational and different from other blogs out there?

Our aim is to get the most possible hits each week!!!!
